Burgundy Leather Harrington Jacket, Throat Drawcord

A leather drawcord runs through the throat of this burgundy leather harrington jacket, gathered on a single toggle so the collar can be drawn in tight against the wind or left slack and open across the chest.

Fastening happens twice over: a zip runs the full front, then a straight centre fly placket snaps down over it on brass studs, so the closed jacket reads as one clean panel with the zip tape showing only as a dark strip along the front edge. Above that sits a pointed shirt collar rather than a knitted band, and there is no rib anywhere on the body. Angled zip chest pockets sit over snap-flap hip pockets, which carry vertical zip side entries of their own. Shirred elastic leather gathers the waistband in, cuffs close on buttoned tabs, and the inside is lined throughout in crinkled gold-olive satin.

Everything mechanical was worked through at our Doncaster office before these photographs were taken: each brass stud pressed shut and pulled open, both chest zips and the side entries run end to end, the drawcord fed through and re-toggled. Cleaning was gentle and nothing was recoloured or dressed, since a coating would only mask the surface you need to judge. Flat measurements were taken with the jacket laid out unfastened and they are listed separately further down the page; the chest and sleeve figures are the two worth holding against a jacket you already wear. Wear is not hidden here. The hide has gone dry and matte rather than glossy, and both sleeves along with the area around the shoulders have rubbed to a greyed, chalky brown that sits clearly apart from the deeper colour still held by the body. Scuffing and abrasion follow the pocket edges, the front placket and the lower body, and the creasing through the back and elbows is set permanently into the leather. Sound in these photographs: the elastic waistband still gathers as it should, every brass snap and every zip is present and undamaged, and the satin lining is heavily crinkled but carries no tears or splits.
