Sheffield G Collections buys worn leather worldwide, restores it by hand, and sells it one garment at a time.
Most of what we look at never reaches the bench.
Where the jackets come from
Dealers who have been trading the same stock for thirty years. Estate sales, house clearances, private sellers, wardrobes being emptied after a death. We buy one jacket at a time, wherever in the world the good leather turns up, and we pay for the hide rather than the label.
A good leather jacket was built to outlive the person who bought it. Forty years on, the panels are still sound, the grain has settled into something no factory can imitate, and the only things standing between it and another forty years are a clean, a condition and an honest repair. That is the whole business.
What restoration actually means here
It does not mean making a jacket look new. A forty year old hide that looks new has been stripped, recoloured and sealed, and it will crack within two winters.
It means deep cleaning the leather without lifting its colour, feeding the hide until it moves again, restitching seams by hand where the original thread has gone, replacing hardware like for like, and relining where a lining is beyond saving. Then it is graded, photographed under consistent light, and every mark that survived the process is shown rather than hidden.
What we turn down
The reason stock moves slowly is that most of what we are offered fails one of these.
- Hides that have dried past the point where conditioning brings them back
- Linings torn beyond a clean, invisible repair
- Zips that no longer run true and cannot be matched like for like
- Jackets that have been resized or altered in a way that shows
- Anything carrying a smell that will not lift
- Anything we could not describe honestly in a listing
A jacket that has already lasted forty years is not a risk. It is the proof.
One of each, and then it is gone
Every garment on this site is a single item in a single size. There is no second one in the back, no restock, no other colourway. When it sells, the page goes dark and stays dark.
That is why the measurements matter more than the size tag, why we answer questions before you buy rather than after, and why the photographs show the flaws as clearly as the good side.
