About this jacket

The collar does the talking on this burgundy leather harrington jacket: a tall funnel band, faced on the inside with black leather, closed in by a slim leather drawcord with metal tips. Let the cord out and the collar slouches open at the neck; pull it in and the whole thing stands up around your jaw.

Below that, the front runs on a straight centre zip with no flap over it. Twin chest pockets close under snap flaps, and set just beneath them a second pair opens on angled brass zips, giving four pockets in all. Waistband and cuffs are shirred elasticated leather rather than the knitted rib this cut normally carries, so the hide runs unbroken from shoulder to hem. Inside, the lining is a printed scene in grey and tan with a small red woven label at the neck.

Everything got gone over at our Doncaster office before it went online: the zip run top to bottom, both aglets on the drawcord, each snap on the pocket flaps. Sizing is listed as XL, but the flat figures taken with the tape are the ones to trust, and they sit in the measurement panel beside the photographs. Hold the pit to pit number against a jacket already hanging in your wardrobe and you will know in seconds whether this one works.

Wear on it is real and worth setting out plainly. Creasing runs right through the hide, heaviest across the back and over the sleeve heads. Both shoulders, the upper back yoke and the chest either side of the zip carry a rubbed lighter sheen where the colour has lifted and gone mottled. Pocket flaps and the hem edge have picked up light surface scuffing. There are no tears, holes or splits, the zip, drawcord tips and snaps are all present, and the printed lining is clean and intact with no staining.

What happened before this was listed

  1. Sourced Bought as a single garment from an estate sale, dealer or private seller, chosen for the condition of the hide rather than the label in the collar.
  2. Cleaned Deep cleaned and conditioned so the leather moves again, without stripping the colour it has settled into.
  3. Repaired Where stitching, hardware or a lining needed work, it was put right before listing: seams restitched by hand, hardware replaced like for like, linings repaired or renewed.
  4. Graded Inspected panel by panel and graded honestly. Anything beyond normal vintage wear is written into the listing.
  5. Photographed Shot under consistent light. The photographs form part of the description, so what you see is what will arrive.
