About this jacket

Angled welt hand pockets, cut on the slant, give this burgundy leather vintage jacket its most immediate detail, each one dropped into the curved panel seam that sweeps down the front rather than sitting flat on the surface.

Fastening is a straight centre zip running the full length of the front, and above it sits a pointed shirt collar with a small red woven label at the nape. No knitted rib appears anywhere on the garment: the hem finishes plain and straight across the waist, and the cuffs end in plain leather. Inside, a charcoal satin lining carries a pocket on the interior.

Before the photographs were taken, the hide was professionally cleaned and conditioned, the zip was run its full travel in both directions, and the seams were checked over. Sizing is not left to the label alone. Every flat measurement, from pit to pit through to collar-to-hem length, is listed in the measurements panel beside the images, so hold those figures against a jacket already hanging in your wardrobe.

Wear here is honest and worth reading closely. The hide is sound, with no tears, holes or split seams, but creasing runs heavy and soft over the body and sleeves, and the raised crowns of those creases have rubbed to a lighter, browner sheen against the deeper burgundy-brown ground. It reads most strongly across the chest, around the pocket openings low on the front, and along the folds of the sleeves. Collar points sit slightly soft and rolled. The zip and its metal pull are intact, and the charcoal lining photographs clean, with no staining, sagging or splits.

  1. Sourced Bought as a single garment from an estate sale, dealer or private seller, chosen for the condition of the hide rather than the label in the collar.
  2. Cleaned Deep cleaned and conditioned so the leather moves again, without stripping the colour it has settled into.
  3. Repaired Where stitching, hardware or a lining needed work, it was put right before listing: seams restitched by hand, hardware replaced like for like, linings repaired or renewed.
  4. Graded Inspected panel by panel and graded honestly. Anything beyond normal vintage wear is written into the listing.
  5. Photographed Shot under consistent light. The photographs form part of the description, so what you see is what will arrive.
