Burgundy Leather Field Jacket, Buttoned Epaulette

Buttoned epaulettes ride across each shoulder of this burgundy leather field jacket, squaring off a line that most jackets in this colour leave plain.

Fastening is three nickel hook clasps set down the front, closing over the zip rather than in place of it. The collar stands short and upright, with nothing to fold back. Twin patch pockets sit on the chest, each under a flap and each with a zipped welt directly above it, while the hip pockets are cut on a slant for hands. No knitted rib at the cuffs or hem, so the leather itself sets the shape at both ends, and the lining is plain dark burgundy throughout.

Our check was straightforward: every clasp caught and released, both chest zips ran end to end, the epaulette buttons were tested on their shanks. It then went flat on the table for chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve and length, and those five figures sit in the measurements panel beside this description. Labelled M, though the numbers should get the deciding vote before you buy.

Condition is worth reading twice. The finish across the shoulders and upper back has rubbed lighter and gone matte, leaving a dry, slightly chalky bloom against the deeper burgundy of the lower body, and the same lightening carries over the upper chest and sleeve heads. Soft creasing runs through the body and around the elbows, turning heavier over the chest pockets. Nothing is holed, split or giving way at a seam; all three clasps, both chest zips and the epaulette buttons are present and bright, and the lining is clean and intact, its red label and interior zip pocket undamaged.
